JOHOR BAHRU: Pihak Berkuasa Wilayah Pembangunan Iskandar (IRDA) menyenaraikan 10 reka bentuk landskap hasil ciptaan universiti tempatan dan luar negara untuk pertimbangan pilihan landskap Projek Pemulihan Sungai Segget di sini.
Ketua Eksekutif IRDA, Datuk Ismail Ibrahim, berkata reka bentuk terbaik yang menampilkan elemen dinamik dan mampu memenuhi cita rasa masyarakat masa kini akan diterapkan dalam pelan landskap IRDA yang akan dilaksanakan pada fasa ketiga projek berkenaan.
Katanya, IRDA sentiasa mengalu-alukan pandangan awam berhubung landskap dan kerja pengindahan Sungai Segget yang dijangka dimulakan akhir tahun ini.
“IRDA akan bekerjasama dengan pelajar universiti dan masyarakat setempat untuk mengindahkan semula Sungai Segget sebagai hadiah kepada rakyat.
“Ada beberapa elemen unik dihasilkan pelajar yang boleh diterapkan contohnya penggunaan tayar sebagai penahan kerusi dan kayu turbin dijadikan sebagai pelantar,” katanya kepada sidang media selepas mengadakan lawatan di Sungai Segget di sini, hari ini.
Program lawatan itu sempena Bengkel Senibina NEON Ke-29 dan Forum Segget Greatest yang dianjurkan Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) dan dihadiri lebih 1,000 pelajar membabitkan 27 universiti seluruh Malaysia serta Indonesia dan Brunei.
Ismail berkata, IRDA akan memuktamadkan pelan reka bentuk lanskap Sungai Segget sebelum akhir tahun ini dan mengadakan beberapa siri hebahan bagi mendapatkan maklum balas orang awam.
“Kita akan mengadakan pameran mengenai reka bentuk landskap Projek Pemulihan Sungai Segget untuk dapatkan pandangan awam sebelum reka bentuk akhir dimuktamadkan.
“Projek ini dalam proses penawaran tender dan kerja lanskap dijangka dimulakan hujung tahun ini,” katanya.
Sungai Segget satu daripada projek di bawah Pelan Transformasi Johor Bahru iaitu program kerjasama di antara IRDA dan Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB) bagi mencapai visi sebuah bandar mampan.
Sementara itu, Naib Pengarah 1 Bengkel Senibina NEON Ke-29, Raynaldi Tamzil, berkata bengkel anjuran Fakulti Alam Bina UTM itu dianjurkan selama enam hari bermula 18 Ogos lalu yang diadakan di sekitar kawasan projek Sungai Segget.
Katanya, aktiviti itu antara langkah bagaimana komuniti masyarakat dapat mengoptimumkan kawasan Sungai Segget sebagai ruang awam untuk aktiviti pengumpulan idea dan pendapat.

Greenovation Research Group conducted a workshop on Child Friendly Cities at Makassar on 3 to 4 April 2017. From the group, four PhD students, Irfan Suria, Joharudin Samion, Mega Suria and Arti Manikam assisted Dr Ismail Said and Dr Nor Zalina Harun from IIUM to teach fifty 3rd year students from Department of Urban Planning, Universitas Islam Negeri Alauddin in Makassar.
They taught how to design five urban spaces as children playspaces in less-privileged neighborhood, an open space beside a park, and a upper class neighborhood. The Alauddin’s students were much delighted to learn the fast approach of designing the children’s environment. The hospitality given by docents and dean of Faculty of Sainstex at Alauddin was superb. Greenovation plans to come again to Makassar in March 2018.

On 12 March 2017, the Landscape UTM Alumni Workshop Series was continuing with the second workshop which entitled “From Form to Concept”. This workshop patronised by 9 practising Landscape Architects who are all UTM alumni. The workshop participated not only the final year students but also a crowd from lower year landscape students. The workshop began with a design critique session of the final year students’ projects. Likewise, the crit session essentially to internalise students’ conceptual design and their critical thinking in developing landscape master plan and detail area design.
After the lunch break, the program continues by the open lecture delivered by LAr. Mr Lee Fei Chong, Alfred and Mr Ng Sze Oun. Both speakers respectively shared the creating a landscape plan using form composition, philosophy concept through art; and inspiring futuristic to create the good design concept. Throughout workshop session, another fruitful learning process pertains a great landscape design involvement is from concept stages till landscape detail construction.

Landscape UTM Alumni Workshop Series 2017
Topic: Place Making: Meaning of Spaces
Date: 25 Feb 2017 (Saturday)
Venue: Seminar Room B03, Faculty of Built Environment (FAB), UTM Skudai
Department of Landscape Architect from Faculty of Built Environment, UTM Skudai held a monthly workshop: ‘Landscape UTM Alumni Workshop Series 2017’ organised by the final year students. The main objective of this workshop is to share landscape project input to all landscape final year students. Therefore, LAr. Lee Wooi Keat an Alumni of Landscape UTM from CPG Consultants PTD LTD, Singapore was invited to give a short talk on ‘Place Making: Meaning of Space’.
LAr. Lee Wooi Keat shared his office projects, the Riversound Residence and Boon Lay Field which are both located in Singapore. Based on the project examples, he explained about the space design consideration in order to design a space in making a place. He also concluded his talk with quotes “Understand the place when creating the space”. The talk does not only end with the Q&A Session, he also willing to spent his time for crit – session to give comments and advice to some of the students in helping their final year projects. This workshop has benefits all students to maximize the opportunity to obtain fruitful input from practiced Landscape Architects.

The 16th of February 2017 will always be a memorable day for three students, Diong Jia Qi (Year 1SBEP), Nur Shahidah binti Sulaiman (Year 2SBEP) and Yong Mei Yee (Year 4SBEP). These students received their academic prizes from the Head of Department (HoD), Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP), Faculty of Built Environment (FAB), UTM JB, Associate Professor Datin TPr. Dr. Norsiah Abd Aziz, for being the best students of the Department in the first semester of the academic year 2016/2017.

The academic prizes were presented to these students at the Academic Advisors Meeting which took place at the Convention Hall, B12, FAB. In her address, the HoD welcomed all students back to the Department for the second semester and hoped that all students continue to work hard and strive for academic excellence, and to always do their best in all their undertakings in the second semester of academic year 2016/2017.
Amongst the important items that were highlighted to the students are:
- All graduating students are to pass all courses in the Professional Skills Certificate (PSC) programme in order to graduate.
- All graduating students are to regularly check and ensure that they have accumulated a total of 133 credits upon application to graduate.
- Students are reminded that higher marks are given to participation and awards won at the International level for all student awards by UTM.
- Students are invited to participate in the APSA 2017 as paper and or poster presenters by visiting the APSA 2017 website at https://www.apsa2017.org/greetings/
- The Board of Town Planners Malaysia will visit the Department on the 23rd and 24th May 2017 for the accreditation of the Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning programme. Student attendance and participation is compulsory.
- Students are to practice energy saving measures and cleanliness in the studios and lecture rooms at all times.
- The Year 4 SBEP studio on level 4 B05 is designated as the PSM Workstation for all 4th Year SBEP students working on their PSM from 8.00 am till 5.00 pm, Sunday to Thursday this semester.
- The Department expects a 100 percent attendance from students at all University, Faculty and Departmental activities.
Students then met with their respective academic advisers to reflect on their academic achievements in the first semester and to discuss actions for improvements.
