UTM Architecture students attain prestigious PAM Ferruni Ceramiche and Inovar Student Awards 2018

Petaling Jaya, May 12, 2018 – UTM Architecture students once again managed to garner the prestigious PAM Ferruni Ceramiche and Inovar Awards 2018. Students who won two of the four Ferruni Ceramiche Awards were Teh Yi Zhi and Lee Siew Jing, from the 3rd year B Sc Architecture programme.

Lim Wen Jia, Master of Architecture Student Won the RM7,500 Inovar Award.

They each won RM5,000. Lim Wen Jie, a 2nd Year Master in Architecture student was one of the two applicants who each won RM7,500 from the Inovar Award.

Teh Yi Zhi  won RM5,000 Ferruni Ceramiche Award.

The awards were presented during the glamourous PAM Annual Dinner held at the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel, Petaling Jaya on Saturday night, 12 May 2018. The winners were selected from numerous applicants from Architectural Programmes accredited by Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia.

Lee Siew Jing  won RM5,000 Ferruni Ceramiche Award.

The vigorous selection process included a presentation of the students’ design portfolio and an interview process by a panel that consisted of Professionals and Academics under Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia. This means that the success of students speaks highly of the quality of architecture program and the dedication of academic staffs in Malaysia especially UTM.

Three UTM Students won PAM-ZSR Architecture Prize 2017

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 May 2018 – Three Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Architecture students have won the prize of the PAM-ZSR Architecture Prize 2017.

The winning students were Rashidah Jimi Sham, Wilson Tan Xern and Koh Jhee Son. Rashidah and Wilson Tan Xern both emerged Category 2 winners where each took home RM5,000.00 and a certificate. Another one, Koh Jhee Son emerged as a finalist and took home RM500.00 and a certificate.

Rashidah participated in the Dual Function Center for Flood, Relief and Mitigation project under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Ramli Jamaluddin. Wilson competed in the High Water Research Center project under the supervision of Dr Lim Yaik Wah while Koh Jhe Son was involved in Rethink Social Housing under the supervision of Ar. Samsiah Abdullah.

The PAM-ZSR Architecture Prize 2017 ceremony was held at Melawati Corporate Center, Melawati, Kuala Lumpur. Ar Norzaini Mufti, Director of Z & SR Architectural Ventures Sdn Bhd and Ar Ezumi Harzani Ismail, President of the Association of Malaysian Architects handed over prizes to winners.

A total of 65 entries were received from Public and Private Institutions of Higher Learning recognized by the Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM). Two categories have been contested based on two levels of competency, namely LAM Part 1 and LAM Part 2.

Two of the Part 2 Category were won by UTM. Of the five Part 2 finalists, the winners were UTM (2) and University of Malaya (1). Of the nine Part 1 finalists, the winners were Taylor’s University (2), Tun Abdul Razak University (2) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (1).

The panel of jury  consisted of Ar Ezumi Harzani Ismail, Ar Mohd Helmi Md Hanif, Ar Adrianta Aziz, Prof Ar Dr Abdul Razak Sapian, Ar Amzar Ahmad, En Hizwani Hassan and Muhammad Firdaus Jamal.

Selection criteria were based on attributes, design excellence, innovation, sustainability and build ability. The success of students speaks highly of the quality of architecture program and the dedication of academic staffs in Malaysia.

Fakulti Alam Bina mengucapkan setinggi-tinggi tahniah kepada Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Ngah di atas penganugerahan Anugerah Buku Negara Kategori Anugerah Pengajian Tertinggi (Sains Sosial Terbaik: “Pembangunan Mampan Luar Bandar”) sempena Majlis Anugerah Buku Negara 2018 pada 30 April 2018 bertempat di Pacific Ballroom, Hotel Seri Pacific Kuala Lumpur.

UTM Urban and Regional Planning Students and Staff Received Awards in 2017/2018 PR1MA-MIP Township Ideas Competition in Kuala Lumpur

Four (4) groups of Urban and Regional Planning students and staff, Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia have received awards in 2017/2018 Township Ideas Competition under Category 1 and 4 organised by Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA) and Malaysian Institute of Planners. The award ceremony was held at PWTC, Kuala Lumpur on 28th March 2018 with the theme “Youth in Community”.

This is the first time both PR1MA and MIP cooperated together to organise a township ideas competition with the objectives to encourage young and creative minds in designing neighbourhood and township, including to identify potential research proposal to investigate the community issues and developing new ideas in planning for PR1MA neighbourhood and township. The competition launched on 12th September 2017 and consisted of 4 categories, namely Category 1: Neighbourhood Design Ideas for Students, Category 2: Township Design Ideas for MIP Young Graduate, Category 3: Green Township Design Ideas for MIP New Planning Firm and Category 4: PR1MA Research Proposal.

The competition saw participations from various universities and institutions with different backgrounds and expertise. Out from ten (10) groups from UTM, two (2) groups were selected to compete in final round under Category 1 and another (2) groups from UTM selected to the final round under Category 4. The judges comprised of members of the architectural/planning professionals, universities, consultants and corporations in Malaysia. The award ceremony was launched and officiated by Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Idris bin Jusoh, accompanied with Chief Executive Officer of Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA), Dato’ Abdul Mutalib bin Alias and President of Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP), TPr. Hj Ihsan Zainal Mokhtar.

For Category 1, team comprising Wan Muhammad Aqib bin Wan Mohamad Ahaary, Josephine Lee Siaw Ling, Nuraqilah Najwa binti Mustapa Kamil, Amirul Afiq bin Jamaluddin and Nagananteni A/P Subramanian won Special Mention award and received RM1000 and certificate. Team comprising Hayati binti Kuneh, Mas Ayu Aziera binti Masri, Nur Syahirah Haziqa binti Adnan, Syarifah Jamiamirah binti Syed Jamaluddin and Wan Jushamilla Husna binti Wan Ab Jamil were shortlisted to the final round and received certificate. Students from International Islamic University Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia and Universiti Malaya won the 1st prize, 2nd prize and 3rd prize respectively.

On the other hand, for Category 4, team comprising Mohd Jamsyeer Khan bin Jalaludin Khan, Dr. Siti Hajar binti Misnan and Assoc. Prof. TPr. Dr. Hairul Nizam bin Ismail won 3rd prize and received RM1500 and certificate. Meanwhile, team comprising Dr. Siti Hajar binti Misnan, Prof. MCILT. TPr. Dr. Ho Chin Siong and Dr. Gabriel Ling Hoh Teck won consolation prize and received RM250 and certificate.

PR1MA-MIP Township Ideas Competition 20172018
