Low Carbon Asia Research Group (LCA)

The Low Carbon Asia Research Group is based at the UTM-Low Carbon Asia Research Centre (UTM-LCARC), which was officiated by the then UTM Vice Chancellor and Japan Ambassador to Malaysia on 30 October 2013 under the auspices of the Japanese Government sponsored Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS).

LCA RG aims to bring holistic and innovative science, technology, and community-based solutions for the promotion of sustainable urban futures in Asia, specifically in the subject area of mitigating and adapting to climate change at both the larger societal and local community levels.

We are one of the leading research groups in Asia which are committed to and actively engaging in city- and regional-level climate change GHG emission modeling, science-based climate policymaking, and climate action planning using the science to action (S2A) approach.

We also develop climate change syllabus, and conducts public education programs and capacity building workshops to nurture new leaders to create positive change in the economy, environment and social development for addressing sustainability issues.

We work collaboratively and closely with city and regional authorities, relevant ministries and federal and state agencies, as well as renowned international and local universities and research institutions in advancing sustainability and climate agenda.
