Building Information Modelling (BIM)

Fostering the digital transformation of Malaysia’s built environment, the Building Information Modelling Research Group (BIMRG) at UTM  leads advancements in BIM and digital construction through research, education, training, consultancy and innovation. Established in 2015, the group brings together multidisciplinary expertise in quantity surveying, construction technology, engineering, and architecture—enabling holistic support for applied research and industry collaboration.

BIMRG actively contributes to two key focus areas:

• BIM and Digital Construction – Driving progress in BIM and digital tools
• Construction Work Design and Management (CDM) – Advancing safety planning and regulatory compliance

BIMRG drives excellence across three strategic pillars:

• BIM Technology – Exploring and applying cutting-edge BIM tools and digital solutions.
• BIM Management – Developing efficient BIM workflows and strategic implementation frameworks.
• BIM Education – Integrating BIM into academic programmes and professional development initiatives.

BIMRG maintains strong collaborations with key industry stakeholders, including CIDB, MRT Corp, MOHE, IJM, DOSH, IRDA and others. As a certified myBIM Satellite Centre for the southern region under CIDB and a certified training provider for CDM under DOSH, BIMRG offers recognised training programmes to strengthen digital and safety competencies across the built environment.
