This centre was set up in June 1996 on the foundation of numerous intricate Measured Drawing works of Historical Buildings out of concern for the rapid disintegration and elimination of Malaysia’s architectural heritage. With the accumulation of these works since 1975, the research towards the identification, classification and analysis of the architectural heritage was established through Undergraduate and Post-Graduate studies. Today, KALAM has a documentary collection of more than 600 buildings such as Residences, Palaces, Mosques, Public Buildings, Commercial Buildings, Wakaf, Madrasah and Tombs.

A Centre of Excellent (CoE) based at the Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Its role is to spearhead research and development (R&D) in urban and regional planning and development with a clear focus on nurturing innovation within an interdisciplinary platform.The Centre shall also play a leading role in fostering effective partnerships between academia, policy makers, NGOs and local communities in the search for new paradigms and approaches to create a sustainable built environment.

The Centre for Real Estate Studies is UTM’s Centre of Excellence in Real Estate was established in 1997 to provide support for a variety of real estate research and educational activities at the Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying.The centre helps to fulfil the needs of the real estate and facilities management industry in research, knowledge advancement, professional practice, and experience through inter-institutional collaboration and information exchange between the University and industries.

Geoscience and Digital Earth Centre (INSTeG) is one of five research centre under Research Institute for Sustainable Environment (RISE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The centre were created to gain the vibrant, innovative and productive research culture, apart from to maintain the status of a Research University.As a centre of excellence, INSTeG practices integrative and collaborative research which involves multi-disciplinary teams, knowledge and networking at national and international levels
