When we talk about art it must be related to one’s creativity. What is creativity? Creativity is a phenomenon whereby something new and valuable is formed. The created item may be intangible such as an idea, a scientific theory, a musical composition, or a joke, or a physical object such as an invention, a printed literary work, or a painting. So from this point, we can see that there are some things we can do in developing our creativity. But do you ever think about why creativity is very important and helpful in our daily lives? Well, there are some of the benefits that we can get from these skills which are creativity can helping with problem-solving, can make you more productive, can boost your confidence, and also can help clarify your thoughts and feelings. So, this creativity is very useful and necessary for a person to have it in their life.
Based on my “Manifesto”, what I want to convey in this project is to propose to make a place where people can hone their creative talents in the field of art and handicraft where we know that art is also one of the things that can cultivate in the formation of one’s creativity. So, my idea is to make a “Traditional Art/ Handicraft Learning Center” for the community that can give a lot of benefits for them. Why did I choose this type of learning center? This is because, from my observation around the site located in Kota Tinggi District, I found that there is no place related to art for example art/handicraft center which makes it difficult for people that interested in learning about the arts to get opportunities. Besides, nowadays we can see that the younger generation is also not familiar with this traditional art because of lack of exposure to them which now causing traditional art to begin to be forgotten.
So the main aspect that I’m going to focus on in this learning center is Traditional art and handicrafts that can be found in Malaysia. For example, woven baskets, batik, and painting which is the most popular traditional art/handicraft around this country. I will use these popular arts/handicrafts as the main activity in this learning center because it can give a variation in terms of attraction for the community to learn. Also in this learning center, it will provide many benefits for the users with a futuristic learning environment in line with “21st Century Art” and also has a natural environment like indoor greeneries to make users in the learning center always keep in touch with nature. I hope that with this opportunity in developing a learning center can benefit the surrounding community as well as make it as a new node for the local communities at Kota Tinggi District.
