First Glance at BSP

Upon first impression, one cannot ignore the eyesore that is the parked cars on the side of the road, Bandar Sri Permaisuri (BSP) seems to be plagued with overpopulation. Alas, it can’t be helped that tenants here flock to BSP en masse as overspill from KL city centre and its surrounding area, some residents share rooms with 2 or more people, and only one parking is provided per household.

The abundance of illegal parking in BSP

Although apart from its numerous flaws, BSP boasts the potential for excellent pedestrian connectivity. Covered walkways line the sidewalks from the side of Masjid Al-Najihin all the way up to the Salak Selatan LRT Station. Public transportation looks abundant, although at half-hour intervals. On top of all that, everything is within walking distance for the residents of BSP, albeit food, supermarket, public transportation and other facilities and amenities.

For the site under analysis, it sits at a curve in the road where signages litter the place. It is also situated right in front of a residential block, a condominium. There are no cars in sight parked on the side of the road in this area, with the assumption made because of the idle site, and the condos are not as overpopulated as the low to mid-tier flats elsewhere. It is also a stone’s throw away from an area of shop lots that is continuously full of life. As said before, the site is idle, so it is packed full of dense vegetation. It is also oriented along the north-western axis, following the curve of the road. But, the lack of potential for frontage leaves a lot to be desired.

Initially, my thoughts on the project are that of mild worry due to its challenging nature but determined to see how it goes and see it through. As of the time of writing, I have yet to find a concrete issue that is to be tackled and to be carried through throughout the duration of the project. So, the feelings of worry never really do go away :’)
