A semester to remember

My second year semester two has been quite an experience. Here, I will tell you about my final project and the things I have enjoyed and learned.

My final project continues the theme of my manifesto, which is the awareness of the climate issue. It is a facility for climate interpretation, with exhibits that describe the local environment and simulation rooms where visitors can experience unpredictable climate occurrences like earthquakes, heat islands, and floods. My main goal is to improve pedestrian experiences by facilitating easy access and offering a useful ground floor for the general public.

My board pin-ups for portfolio review

I am relieved that I was able to make a colourful board this time because my prior semesters’ boards were monochromatic and I was growing weary of them. I make it a point to experiment with various formats and methods rather than forcing myself to keep to a certain “style.” There are undoubtedly numerous benefits to having one’s own niche in design, and there is nothing wrong with that. This is really a personal quest on my part to discover what will work best for me. I didn’t think I could complete this project with the methodology and final design I accomplished. Of course, there is space for growth, but this is how being a student really plays out—learning from your mistakes and looking for delight in the work you produce.

For this semester, I also learned a new programme called Revit, and I’m pleased with how the designs turned out overall. Early in the semester, I had a lot of difficulties, but learning from my friends and on YouTube has been quite beneficial. It will be simple to use the software once one gets the feel of it. Even though I still have a lot to learn about this programme, I discovered that Revit sped up the planning phase of my project this semester.

Finding ideas for this project was challenging because I wanted it to convey the flow of the exhibition space in a straightforward manner without being overly simplistic. I believe I took too long to choose my course of action, but alas, there were deadlines to meet and work still needed to be done. It may not be the same for everyone, but I found it difficult to adjust for this semester because I had never completed a full face-to-face semester. I would even say that I experienced some cultural shock. However, this roller coaster experience will remind me of what I should do and should not do for my upcoming semesters. I found that good time management is crucial, especially being an architecture student where one juggles a lot of tasks at one time and a good project needs to be given time and attention too.

Memorable pictures together with classmates and lecturers

In closing, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has assisted me in any manner in finishing this semester. Many thanks to Dr. Izura, my workbase master, who has provided me with a lot of direction and original ideas for my research. I sincerely appreciate her kindness and patience with every one of us. I am also happy to meet and become friends with new people that are really skilled and enthusiastic about what they do. Truly, this semester has been an eye opener for me about architecture and studio life. Lastly, I would always say a prayer and wish everyone well in their future endeavours. I hope to still stay in touch with everyone after graduation later.

Thank you <3 signing off for this semester. Goodbye! 🙂
