The city of Kota Tinggi is well-known for its historical value as it is related to the history of Malaysia and once became the center of government. Aside from the heritages left by – ‘Balai Kota 1528’ and ‘Makam Sultan Mahmud Mangkat Dijulang,’ to name a few – countless other monuments were built with the development of Kota Tinggi, such as the Kota Tinggi Clock Tower and Kota Tinggi Bridge.
Based on the exploration of Kinggi Tinggi, I intended to create a learning center where the past unites with the future. With the diversity of cultures and stories left by Kota Tinggi’s predecessors, this is an excellent chance to educate Gen Z while they express the past atmosphere through their own creativity. Aside from history, this learning center also provides new experiences with the latest technologies so the users are in line with the currents of modernization.
Therefore, I came up with a concept called ‘Chronicle Rhapsody’ where chronicle is a factual written account of important or historical events in the order of their occurrence while rhapsody can be defined as an effusively enthusiastic or ecstatic expression of feeling. As a whole, ‘Chronicle rhapsody’ means an expression of feeling towards the occurrence of history.
The manifesto portrays three levels: Ground floor, First floor, and Second floor. Starting from the ground floor, each floor has its own functionality. The ground floor resembles the spaces where the users begin the learning process from the basics. Along the process of learning, the first floor provides social interactions spaces between the users and the beginning of merging the history and the technologies. The second floor is where the users perform their knowledge to the outsider based on their own creativity.
The components that are contrasted in colour resemble the major part that connects Kota Tinggi with this learning center. The cafe on the ground floor gives opportunities to the users to learn new skills. The jar with the blue and red mixture is the knowledge that they have learned in the center while the clock mimics the Kota Tinggi clock tower as a symbol of historical value that still exists. The box with the ‘VR’ is the latest technology that will be implemented during the learning process. The stage is where the users take turns to educate other people from outside which resembles the train. The sparkling colourful circles are the users and visitors that gain something while visiting this learning center.
I came up with this manifesto so people can appreciate history more while enjoying the learning process.
Thank you.
