“It is an exciting experience as I was given the opportunity to get involve with INSTeG.
A lot of things I had learnt and still so much things that I need to learn especially in<
term of the research and soft skill. Although it is quite beyond my expectation, but
with the help of the members in INSTeG I believe I can go through
all the difficulties along the way.”

Discription  ……………  : .. In spite of the fact that a lot of effort have actually been done regarding marine conservation, most of the marine protection plan
………….. .. were not effectively managed. This matter probably happened because of the previous researches regarding marine conservation that mostly just based on scientific approach while neglecting the other important element which is the fisher knowledge.  Fisher knowledge is qualitative information of local fisherman regarding fishery activity based on the close relationship between the fisherman and the ocean environment. Fisher knowledge is basically collected based on the interview with the local community who spent most of their time on the sea and tends to know the environment better in term of location, time and marine species movement and behaviour. On the other hand, remote sensing is a scientific technique of collecting information of an object on the Earth from a sensor without any physical interaction with the object. Some of the characteristics that indicate the sea condition such as sea surface temperature (SST) and ocean colour can be observed and measured through remote sensing technique. The combination of these two significantly distinct approaches will be a very helpful information for establishing a more effective and better marine conservation planning in the future.
