On campus to receive the SEC delegation were FAB Deputy Dean (Academic), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Rafee Majid and JPBW Head of Department, Assoc. Prof. Datin Dr. Norsiah Abdul Aziz.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">The courtesy visit was a result of a 3-year collaboration (2011-2014) between the SEC\u2019s Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) Program\u2019s <em>Architecture and Territorial Planning Project<\/em>, led by Assistant Prof. Dr. Milica Topalovic, and UTM\u2019s JPBW, led by Prof. Dr. Ho Chin Siong and Mr. Chau Loon Wai. As a result of the fruitful collaboration, SEC and JPBW sought to formalise and strengthen the academic relationship between the two institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Through a cordial knowledge sharing and exchange of research projects undertaken by both institutions, building on their academic strengths and expertise, four strategic research areas have been identified to be further explored:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>Urbanisation in ASEAN+<\/em>; building on FCL\u2019s research in Singapore, SIJORI, Indonesia and UTM\u2019s research in Malaysia (including the Iskandar Malaysia region);<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>Shared data repository<\/em>; common data medium such as Open Streetmap and crowd-sourcing data;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>Sustainable tourism planning and development<\/em>; tourism flows as an expansion of FCL SIJORI work; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>Urban-rural relationships<\/em>; links between UTM sustainable rural planning and FCL\u2019s urban-rural housing research.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>The Singapore-ETH Centre for Global Environmental Sustainability<\/em> (SEC) was established in Singapore in 2010 as a joint initiative between <em>ETH Zurich<\/em> and Singapore\u2019s <em>National Research Foundation<\/em> (NRF). ETH Zurich (<em>Eidgen\u00f6ssische Technische Hochschule Z\u00fcrich<\/em>, or the <em>Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich<\/em>) is one of the leading international universities for technology and the natural sciences.
