Fakulti Alam Bina mengucapkan setinggi-tinggi tahniah kepada dua orang Profesor Emeritus Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Dato’ Prof. Emeritus Ar. Parid Wardi Sudin dan Dato’ Prof. Emeritus Ar. Dr. Elias @ Ilias Salleh di atas pengurniaan Anugerah Pendidikan Senibina 2015 di Majlis Anugerah Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM) 2015 pada 17 Ogos 2015 di Hilton Kuala Lumpur.

UTM Architecture Students Awarded Prestigious PAM-Feruni Ceramiche 2015 Scholarship

Three students from the Bachelor of Science in Architecture Program of the Architectural Department, Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia were awarded the Prestigious PAM-Feruni Ceramiche Scholarship Award at the Luxurious PAM-Pinnacle of Excellence – Annual Dinner 2015. The event was held at the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Sat 23 May 2015.

Application for the PAM-Feruni Ceramiche scholarship award was open to all Accredited Architectural Schools in Public and Private Universities in Malaysia. The award was a scholarship of RM5,000.00 for each year of remaining study for each student. Shortlisted candidates were earlier called in to present themselves and their Architectural Design student portfolio to a jury panel consisting of Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM) officials and representatives of the Corporate Sponsor, Feruni Ceramiche, which is a producer and supplier of premium quality tiles. In previous years there were only four winners of the award, but due to the large number of high quality applications for 2015, six students were awarded the scholarship. Three of the students awarded were from UTM whilst the other three winners were from UPM, UKM & UTAR.

The three winners from UTM are Ahmad Zul Afri Idris, Ooi Soon Theng and Lim Yong Zheng. All three are from the Third Year of the Bachelor of Science in Architecture programme. Their success is highly applauded by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia as a whole and in particular the Department of Architecture, Fakulti Alam Bina, and is an inspiration to all other students to strive to be the best nationally and globally.

 

Another victory repeated: UTM Quantity Surveying Students Won the 7th RICS-RISM International Surveying Conference for Undergraduate Competition 2015

JOHOR  BAHRU, 24 May 2015: Kudos to Quantity Surveying Students of Quantity Surveying Department, who managed to won 2 best presenters awards at the 7th RICS-RISM International Conference for Undergraduates 2015 held on 22 and 23 May at Inti International University, Nilai Campus.

The conference is a series of annual event jointly organized by Royal Institution of Surveyors (RICS) and Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) host together with participating Universities on a rotation basis. This year, the conference was graciously hosted by Inti University at Nilai Campus, Negeri Sembilan. The theme for this year’s conference is “Young Surveyors: Assets of National Growth”. The conference provides a platform for undergraduates from the various accredited surveying courses in Malaysia as well as Asia Pacific Regional Universities to share and exchange ideas, promote understanding and networking apart from exposing the students to present their undergraduate research publicly.

The 7th RICS-RISM International Surveying Conference for Undergraduate 2015 was opened to both national and international participating universities within the Asia Pacific Region. The participating university comprises of  Universiti Malaya, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Taylor’s University, Assumption University (Thailand), International Islamic University Malaysia, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, ChongQing University (China) and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (China).

Our students have managed to outshine other candidates for the Best Presenters Award category by presenting their undergraduate research. The winners for the Best Presenters are Zafira Nadia Maaz and Jiram anak Randy. Zafira presented her research entited “Accuracy of Pre-Tender Estimates – Where Are We?” while Jiram presented his paper entitled “Knowledge Retention Strategy : A Study on QS Firms Practice”.

The papers were judged by both academicians and prominent industry players that includes Dato’ Mani Usilappan (RISM), Prof. Sr. Omar Munir (UTAR), Dr. Tan Chin Keng (IIUM), Assoc. Prof. Sr. Dr. Razali Adul Hamid (UTM), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anuar Alias (UM), Azrina Md. Yaakob (Taylor’s University), Benny Lee, INTI International University and Faraziera Mohd Raslim (USM). The adjudicators for the parallel session were randomly selected from the participating universities to choose the best speaker during each parallel session. All in all, 38 papers were vetted and presented.

The plenary session of the conference was welcomed by Sr. Kwan Hock Hai the Chair of RICS Malaysia Board and the presenters includes YBhg. Datuk Sr. Chia Lui Meng (United Malayan Land Berhad), Sr. Syamilah Yacob (PWD), Dr. Teng Chee Hua (Cadastral Survey), Sr Firdaus Musa (Firdaus Associate Property Professionals Sdn. Bhd.).

The awards were presented by Sr Kwan Hock Hai, the Chair of RICS Malaysia Board. There were 3 categories of award at the competition namely the Best Presenters, Special Mention Paper and Best Paper. UTM will be the next host for the upcoming competition in 2016.

Once again the students of Quantity Surveying and Construction Programme have managed to outshine other contenders’ from participating universities within the Asia Pacific region and repeated previous year’s success to remain the best in country. Kudos to all!

Urban Planning Students Win “Most Innovative Model Township Award”

The 4th Planning A Clean and Green Township Competition was held in Singapore on the 11th and 12th April 2015.  It was organised by Activistar Advocacy, a sister company of Activistar Pte Ltd that promotes and incorporates eco-friendly principles in the planning of sustainable townships. The competition saw participation of eighty teams (80) from four (4) countries namely, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines. Thirty four teams (34) were short listed for the competition.

Two teams from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (JPBW), Faculty of Built Environment (FAB), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) were among the teams short listed. The aim of the competition was to increase awareness among the young generation of the current and future challenges faced by developing countries due to the pressures of rapid urbanisation and hence, the dire need for sustainability. The two (2) teams from JPBW, FAB, UTM are Paradigm Planning Consultant Group and Mahal Group.  The team members are Akrammussalam bin Selamat, Balqis Ayu Nabila, Ellida binti Samsudin, Fatin Atiqah binti Mohd Zaile, Mohamad Firdaus bin Maarof, and Khaireen Edlin binti Roslen representing Paradigm Planning Consultant Group and Tay Suet Yi, Mariyani binti Rozali, Khoirun Nisha binti Umar, Yong Mei Yee, and Nor Sarah Zawani binti Md Zaim representing Mahal Group. Dr. Gobi Krishna A/L Sinniah accompanied and was also advisor to the teams.

The competition was conducted in three (3) stages, stage 1 was the submission of a proposal report, followed by stage 2, a verbal or multimedia presentation, and stage 3, the development and submission of a design model. The first day competition was held at Ngee Ann Polytechnic whilst the grand finale on the second day was at SCAPE, Orchard Rd, Singapore. Officials from the Embassies of Denmark, Belgium, the Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National University of Singapore (NUS) attended the two (2) day competition. The team from UTM, Paradigm Planning Consultant Group won the “Most Innovative Model Township Award”.  The design models by the two (2) teams from UTM were selected to be displayed at Chao Chu Kang National Library, Singapore.

Prof. Dr Supian Ahmad Lead the Faculty’s Achievement Awards

CONGRATULATIONS to all faculty members who were awarded with Excellence Service Award (Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang) at the Majlis Anugerah Kecemerlangan dan Penghargaan UTM 2006 held on the 31st of July 2007 for their achievements in 2006.

The dean, Prof. Dr. Supian Ahmad, as one of the recipients together with ten other faculty members was called upon to receive their awards at the ceremony. Among others were Prof Dr Ahris Yaakup, Assoc. Prof. Dr Roslan Amirudin, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aminatuzuhariah Megat Abdullah, Dr Rafee Majid, Puan Hamidah Ahmad, En Mofti Marzuki, Puan Siti Rukiah Sahari, En Hassan Sahat, Puan Zaharah Ismail and En Abu Bakar Zainal.

Head LandscapeThe faculty is also proud with two of its members’ achievements being recognized at the ceremony. They were Assoc. Prof. Dr Ismail Said and Dr Hairul Nizam Ismail for their excellent performance in completing their PhD studies within three years. The former graduated from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Dr Hairul Nizam from the University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom.

Prof. Dr. Amran Hamzah who was appointed as Professor early this year was awarded with the Consultancy Award (Anugerah Perundingan) for Individual Category. His high achievements in tourism research and consultancy projects and also his involvements in national and international tourism committees have caught the attention of Khazanah Nasional and Petronas to appoint him as one of the advisors for Southern and Eastern Region Development Plan.

Dr Muhammad Zaly Shah Muhammad Hussein has had his hard work in monitoring his students’ performance paid when he was awarded with the Best Teaching Award (Anugerah Pengajaran Terbaik). Always known as a very hardworking and committed staff among his colleagues, Dr Zaly introduced Students Performance Record, a system which enables him to monitor his students’ performance and to help them to plan for improvement.

The ceremony also witnessed the university’s staff that have served the university for thirty and twenty years, where they were given the Jasa Setia and Jasa Bakti Awards. Prof. Dr. Ahris Yaakup lead the Jasa Setia recipients i.e. En Rosly Saad, En Yusof Akmar Mohd Said and En Jasmani Harun while Jasa Bakti Award recipients were Assoc Prof. Dr. Roslan Amirudin, Assoc. Prof. Abdul Wahid Kamarulzaman, En Abdul Halim Hussein, En Mohammad Amzah and En Abu Bakar Zainal.
