Academic Visit to National University of Singapore
On 29th April, Dr. Ismail Said brought two members of Green Innovation Research Laboratory (GIRL) to visit Prof. Johannes Widodo at the Department of Landscape Architecture, National University of Singapore. The members were Dr Kei Saito and Dr Hisyam Rasidi. In addition, he also brought a doctoral candidate, Widya Fransiska, and a master candidate, Nursuraini. The purpose of the visit were two folds: (1) to discuss on Widya’s topic of research on urban morphology of river settlement at Musi river in Palembang, and (2) to introduce young academics to Prof Widodo for research networking in aspects of urban morphology and landscape and micro-climate. Prof Widodo was generous to share his collection of historical maps and manuscripts on Palembang to Widya. Many of his collected materials were rare and thus not available in UTM’s library. Korean Government Scholarship Program Year 2010
Three graduating seniors from Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Built Environment have applied prestigious scholarships known as Korean Government Scholarship Program Year 2010. The students are Muhamad Solehin Fitry Rosley, Teoh Mei Yee, Nurzuliza Jamirsah. Professor Kim Sung-kyun from the Seoul National University have recommended their applications to the scholarship authority government of South Korea. They planned to study their masters in the field of landscape architecture.
New Visiting Professor and Associate Professor for Deparment of Landscape Architecture
Prof Kin Sung-Kyun has been appointed by the Office of Registrar UTM as visiting professor at the Faculty of Built Environment. His appointment commences from 2nd August to 3rd September 2010 and will be attached to Department of Landscape Architecture. He will be assisting the program of landscape urban design studio as well as giving lectures on application of GIS in landscape planning. He is also appointed as external examiner for a PhD candidate who is under the supervision of Dr Ismail Said.
Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Tetsu Kubota has been appointed by the Office of Registrar UTM as visiting associate professor at the Faculty of Built Environment. His appointment commences from 1st January to 31st December 2010. He will be working at the Department of Landscape Architecture delivering lectures on landscape and microclimate. In August, Dr Tetsu will be assisting Dr Ismail Said to conduct a workshop on how to write paper in indexed journals, and the workshop is open for all post-graduate students from the Faculty of Built Environment.
12th Annual Workshop on Current Issues on Construction Contract Management Practices
The Construction Contract Management Group of Quantity Surveying Department, Fakulti Alam Bina UTM organised its 12th annual workshop on Current Issues on Construction Contract Management Practices at Dewan Jema’ah, UTM International Campus Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, 3rd April 2010. The theme was ‘Payment Problems in Construction Industry & The Remedies”. The workshop was well attended by both practitioners in the construction industry and students of the MSc in Construction Contract Management. A total of 90 participants attended the workshop. The speakers include the Puan Sariah Abdul Karib, the Senior General Manager, Construction Business Environment Sector, CIDB Malaysia; Associate Professor Dr Rosli bin Abdul Rashid and Encik Jamaluddin Yaacob from UTM Skudai. Amongst the issues discussed were the proposed Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act (CIPAA), payment problems in the construction industry and the legal remedies for non-payment in construction contracts.
