UTM-LCARC Co-organises High Profile 3rd International Conference of Low Carbon Asia and 6th LoCARNet Annual Meeting

Bangkok, 1st November – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through the UTM-Low Carbon Asia Research Centre (UTM-LCARC), Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment, co-organised the three-day 3rd International Conference of Low Carbon Asia (ICLCA 2017) and the 6th LoCARNet Annual Meeting with the King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonbury (KMUTT) in Bangkok, Thailand.  The ICLCA and LoCARNet annual meeting, which assembled over 150 participants hailing from 16 countries, saw the presentation of six keynotes and some 120 papers that collectively aimed at advancing sustainable low carbon emission development in Asia.

The international conference and annual meeting of the rapidly growing low carbon Asia research network was officiated by Dr. Wijarn Simachaya, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Thailand.  The event also featured a keynote address by Y.Bhg. Prof. Tan Sri Zakri Abdul Hamid, Science Advisor to the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Prof. TPr. Dr. Ho Chin Siong, Director, UTM-LCARC delivered a welcome speech with other key senior officials from Thailand and Japan.  Prof. Ho also chaired, mediated and spoke in several conference sessions in the three days of the conference, as well as doing the important plenary wrap-up on 3 November 2017.

The three-day high-profile event saw the launching of the LoCARNet Bangkok Declaration that outlines LoCARNet’s strong stand and policies on Asia’s contribution to the Paris Agreement.  The Declaration that is co-drafted by UTM-LCARC will be released at the upcoming 23rd Session of Conference of the Parties (COP 23) in Bonn, Germany in November 2017.

Quantity Surveying International Convention (QSIC 2017)

QSIC 2017 is the 16th in a series of Quantity Surveying national and international convention organized annually since 2001. QSIC 2017 is jointly organized by the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM), Royal Institution Malaysia (RISM), University of Malaya (UM) and Public Works Department Malaysia (JKR). This convention is also supported by Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB), Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and Persatuan Perunding Juruukur Bahan Bumiputera Malaysia (PPJBM).

QSIC 2017 aims to bring together leading practitioners, academicians, researchers to exchange and share their experiences regarding the emerging issues and latest development that affecting the future of the QS profession. It also provides a premier interdisciplinary platform for quantity surveying fraternity to discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the field.

UTM QS winning streak

UTM QS students continue their winning streaks at the annual RICS-RISM International Surveying Conference for undergraduates. They bagged the best overall paper award, 2 special mention paper awards and 3 best presenters awards at this year’s conference which was held on the 7-8 April 2017 hosted by UIAM. There were 60 papers submitted and presented. Participants were from surveying programmes in both public and private  universities from all over Malaysia and abroad.  Among the universities that participated included UM, USM, UiTM, UTM, UIAM, UTAR, UTHM, Taylor’s, INTI, Segi, HarriotWatt, Reading and universities from Thailand, Hong Kong and China. The UTM team won almost 80% of the awards that were up for grabs.

The winner were:
1. 3 Best Presenters: Nor Mahfuzah, Rawiah & Azleen Syamimi
2. 2 Special Mention Papers: Nor Mahfuzah & Afiqah
3. Best Paper – LimZijin

Quantity Surveying and Architecture students won Gold Medal in International UTMBridge 2017 Competition

A Gold Medal to Quantity Surveyor and Architecture students in the International UTMBridge Competition 2017! Two group of QS and Architecture students won 2nd Prize for Presentation and Multimedia category and 9th Place on Overall Champion out of 80 participants in the competition. The International UTMBridge Competition was organised by the Faculty of Civil Engineering held on 27-29 March 2017 in UTM.

They received a total of RM1,150 and a trophy. Congratulations to Mr. Syamsul Hendra Mahmud, Dr. Nurshikin Mohamad Shukery and Dr. Nafisah Abdul Rahiman, the group advisor from Department of Quantity Surveying and the students.
