The smart environment monitoring (SEM) is a new device which can measure air and noise pollution. This new SEM device has many technical and operational advantages compared to other similar devices available in the market. Currently, two different types of devices are available such as Reference Method (RM) devices and Sensor Based (SB) devices. Both types are very expensive and have also some other serious limitations. In spite of high price of RM devices, these devices have capacity to measure only a few (one or two) pollutants. Moreover, because of RM devices size, these are not easily portable. Therefore   these devices are not convenient to use for different places. In addition, these devices cannot have capacity to monitor and transfer data while measuring. SB devices can measure many pollutants but these devices are very expensive. SB devices also have some considerable limitations. For instance, SB devices also cannot transfer data while measuring. Both RM and SB devices are not smart and cannot be controlled from a center. SEM attempted to make up for these shortcomings by using more efficient approaches such as very small size, modifiable function (this device can be modified based on the number of tested pollutants that a customer needs so, the price can be reduced significantly), real time measurement (monitoring and transferring data while measuring), smart connectivity (the devices can connect with each other and can be controlled from one center), smart area (since SEM devices are not expensive, these smart devices can be used at different scales from buildings and streets to the neighborhoods and cities. RM and SB devices can be used just for special points), high resolution (up to 4 decimals) and reasonable price. The SEM device that is presented can measure the major pollution such as CO2, CO, NO, NO2, SO2, O3, PM2.5 and PM10 in addition to the noise pollution, pressure, humidity and temperature.
